Sara and Michael Burnett began collecting textiles to decorate their home and to fill their closets. Sara has been a textile artist for over 30 years. She handweaves her own textiles and has many years of experience using natural dyes. Sara and Michael sought out unique textiles to build their collection. Sara's love of textiles and the artistry that goes into creating handmade textiles allowed her to select high quality and unique textiles. While traveling, Sara and Michael discovered quality textiles made using age-old techniques. By 1998, they had acquired such an extensive collection that they decided to open Ancient Textiles to share the spectacular textiles they had discovered with others.

The Ancient Textile’s inventory includes clothing, textiles, carpets, baskets, and felt from all over the world, as well as Sara's own work. Sara and Michael now import textiles from southeast Asia, including Indonesia, Thailand, Myanmar (Burma), and Bhutan. They also have a collection of textiles imported from Turkey and Uzbekistan. All of Ancient Textile's products are handmade using traditional techniques. These techniques include ikat, batik, tie-dye, and shibori, among others. Most are dyed with natural dyes. Some of the textiles were made for ordinary daily use while others were made for ceremonial use or for royal dowries. The clothing Ancient Textiles offers is made from the imported textiles, often using traditional patterns.

Sara and Michael invite you to explore their site. Please return often because they frequently acquire new stock.
